Attorney arrested, charged with using date rape drug on employee

A Snellville attorney was arrested Monday and charged for allegedly drugging a female employee while the two were out to dinner after work.

According to police, Anthony O. Van Johnson went out to dinner with a female employee who worked as an interpreter in his office. She ordered a drink and excused herself to the ladies room.  Police say when she returned, the drink was waiting for her and she noticed there was a powder at the bottom, but assumed this was extra salt that she had ordered with her drink.

The victim consumed the drink and told police she did not remember what happened until hours later when she woke up.  After contacting police, a sexual assault exam was performed on the victim.  It was later determined that gamma-hydroxybutyrate, a popular date rape drug  was in the victim’s system.

The ongoing investigation led to probable cause to obtain a warrant for Johnson, whoa was taken into custody June 4.

Police say they believe there may be other victims that have yet to come forward in reference to this case and encourage anyone with information, or anyone who believes they too may have been victimized by Johnson to call police detectives at (770) 513-5300 or call the case detective, Detective Werner at (770) 513-5355.
