The Athens-Clarke County Public Information Office will begin broadcasting and streaming Mayor and Commission Work Sessions from the Commission Chamber in City Hall as of the Tuesday, Nov. 13 meeting that begins at 5:30 p.m.
Work sessions are informal, non-voting sessions with a few topics covered in greater detail with staff and/or outside consultants or agencies. Agendas and presentations for upcoming work sessions are made available by the Clerk of Commission’s Office at www.accgov.com/agendas.
Although traditionally held in the auditorium of the Dougherty Street Government Building, the work session meetings will now move to City Hall at 301 College Avenue. City Hall is equipped with broadcast-quality cameras, audio equipment, and remote operation capabilities through the ACTV studio adjacent to the Commission Chamber that is used to broadcast and record other Mayor and Commission meetings.
ACTV, the Unified Government’s local government access television channel, will live broadcast and rebroadcast the work session meetings on Charter (Spectrum) channel 180 and University of Georgia Cablevision channel 6. Rebroadcasts are scheduled to air on the next Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. following the meeting.
Work session meetings will also steam live and be available for on-demand viewing at www.accgov.com/videosand the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government’s main YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/accgov. Recordings are also available through the YouTube app found on devices such as Roku and Apple TV by searching for ‘accgov’ within the app.
The Public Information Office began recording and broadcasting Mayor and Commission Regular Session and Agenda Setting Sessions on ACTV in 2002 and began online streaming and on-demand options for these meetings in 2007. The office conducted a pilot project to record work sessions and provide them on-demand online during February 2018.
ACTV began operation in 2000. It airs local government information and videos 24 hours a day, seven days a week through Charter (Spectrum) cable and University Cablevision, as well as in some public locations. It also streams online through www.accgov.com/actv. Background music on the channel exclusively features Athens artists.
