Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant to retire

Roswell Police Chief Rusty Grant announced his retirement today, effective December 30. Grant has served as Roswell Police Chief since March 2013. Prior to being appointed Roswell’s Police Chief, Grant served as the City’s Deputy Police Chief.

Before coming to Roswell, Grant had more than 30 years of law enforcement experience with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. While with the GBI, he specialized in investigating violent crimes, property crimes, drug enforcement and technology.

Grant said working with the officers and staff at the Roswell Police Department has been a great experience.

“The Roswell Police Department consists of the best men and women, sworn and civilian, in the business. It has been my pleasure to work with each of you over the last six years,” Grant said.

Captain Helen Dunkin is being appointed Interim Deputy Chief of Police so that upon Grant’s retirement, she can serve as the Interim Police Chief as the City of Roswell goes through the process of hiring a new Chief of Police.

The announcement comes as the department is about to undergo an external review after two officers were caught on video flipping a coin to determine whether or not to arrest a driver during a traffic stop.
