ATLANTA — Fathers Incorporated announced this week that Dr. Jeff Gardere, affectionately known as “America’s Psychologist” will serve as the keynote speaker at their 15th-anniversary awards ceremony and gala.

The event will take place at The Historic Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta’s “Beloved” Westside Community on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m.

The event will celebrate the accomplishments of fellow philanthropists and community leaders dedicated to working with fathers and their families. Tickets are $100 and table and event sponsors can submit sponsorships for consideration at www.fatherseincorporated.com/15years/.

This year’s theme, The Blueprint: Reimaging the Narrative of the Modern Dad is about getting the broader society to think differently about dads. Dr. Jeff, who serves on the board of Fathers Incorporated, has been at the forefront of this changing narrative for years. With his regular appearances on “Good Morning America”, CNN, MSNBC, FOX Business, “The Today Show” and host of VH1’s “Dad Camp”, when it comes to clinical psychology and analyzing America, media outlets turn to him for help.

Dr. Jeff is the author of several books, including the controversial Love Prescription: Ending the War Between Black Men and Women. He is also the co-author of Practical Parenting with Montel Williams, the Emmy-award winning TV talk show host. Dr. Jeff’s first book, Smart Parenting for African Americans: Helping Your Kids Thrive in a Difficult World has been lauded as being “necessary for raising African-American children in today’s society,” (Black Issues Book Review).

“For far too long we have pushed a false narrative of black fathers being dead-beat dads. The reality is that a much larger majority of loving and concerned black fathers are fully in their children’s lives and making positive contributions day in and day out,” Dr. Jeff said. “I am glad we are finally able to recognize the incredible achievements of black fathers and all fathers for that matter!”

Fathers Incorporated CEO Kenneth Braswell said he wants to challenge the current narrative about dads. “Today, more than ever, society struggles with what it wants to see in dads. Studies show that more than 97% of dads consider the day their child was born as one of the best days of their lives.” He continues, “Society has to do a better job of supporting dads in their desire to be responsible fathers which includes being good providers, giving social-emotional support and receiving direct services as the structure of families and the definition of fatherhood continues to evolve.”

Fathers Incorporated has had the support of countless significant partners throughout the years with nonprofits such as The United Way of Greater Atlanta, Annie E. Casey Foundation, Walton Family Foundation, Literacy for All, University For Parents, The Blank Foundation, Delta Community Credit Union and many others helping to implement professional development, life skills and direct service contributions.
