Education, Employment and Resource Expo to provide wide range of resources for local families

Local families in need of assistance will soon have an opportunity to meet face to face with human service providers who specialize in workforce development, financial literacy, employment and education.

Representatives from the Division of Family and Children Services convened an internal committee to address the needs of Georgia’s vulnerable individuals and families. The Interagency Workforce Opportunity Resource Committee – known as iWORC – is made up of several program units throughout the agency that focus on self-sufficiency.

On Sept. 8, the iWORC committee will host its first Education, Employment and Resource Expo at Atlanta Metropolitan State College’s Charles F. Easley Senior Pavilion, located at 1630 Metropolitan Parkway SW, Atlanta, GA. The expo will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The expo will feature light refreshments, entertainment and giveaways. Attendees will have an opportunity to connect with dozens of vendors, like the United Way of Greater Atlanta, and others offering resources for homelessness, housing, financial literacy, employment and education.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our staff for finding innovative ways to connect service providers with families needing extra support,” said Interim Director Tom Rawlings. “The expo will be a one-stop-shop for families and individuals with a variety of needs. We look forward to bringing this resource fair to the metro Atlanta community.”
